Vietnam wins two gold medals at 2025 European Physics Olympiad

Vietnamese students have achieved a historic milestone at the European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO) 2025, bringing home two gold medals, the country’s best performance since it began participating in the competition in 2019.

The gold medalists are Nguyen Tran Hieu from Bac Ninh High School for Gifted Students and Nguyen Le Dang Khoa from the High School for Gifted Students under Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition, Tran Nguyen Khai of Phan Boi Chau High School for Gifted Students (Nghe An province) earned a silver medal, while Cap Kim Hoang Bao from Le Quy Don High School for Gifted Students (Da Nang) secured a bronze.

EuPhO 2025 took place in Bulgaria from June 13 to 17, drawing around 200 students from 29 European countries and 10 guest teams. Contestants faced rigorous five-hour theoretical and experimental physics exams.

Organised annually by Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) and Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN), EuPhO has been held since 2017. Vietnam has participated since 2019, and this year’s results mark a significant leap in its international academic achievements.

The 4 Gold Medals of the 2025 International Chemistry Olympiad belong to the following students: Ngo Quang Minh (grade 12, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, Bac Ninh province, ranked 7th); Nguyen Hoang Khoi (grade 12, High School for the Gifted, Hanoi National University of Education , ranked 10th); Giang Duc Dung (grade 12, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences - VNU, ranked 14th) and Nguyen Manh Tuan (grade 11, Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi, ranked 37th).
