A fisherman suffering a serious work-related injury while operating in the Truong Sa waters, the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa was brought to a local medical facility and received timely emergency treatment on June 18.

The patient, Tieu Viet But, born in 1970 and residing in Binh Tri commune, Binh Son district, the central province of Quang Ngai, was working aboard fishing vessel Qng – 95657TS when the incident occurred at 7:00 am.

According to his crew member, But accidentally slipped from a height of four metres, striking his head against the vessel’s deck. He was unconscious for 30 minutes and suffered heavy bleeding from both temples.

But was admitted to the Truong Sa town medical centre at 7:30 pm the same day, with intense headaches, dizziness, and two open injuries on the temples. Initial examination revealed no signs of limb paralysis.

Military doctors from Brigade 146 of Naval Region 4, stationed at the medical centre, provided him with first aid, disinfected the wounds, and administered antibiotics, pain medication, anti-inflammatory drugs, and vitamins to him. The patient was also ordered to take strict bed rest and undergo full diagnostic tests, including serum biochemistry and X-ray to assess potential internal damage.

But was diagnosed with cerebral concussion and scalp lacerations to both temples. Although he is now in stable condition, medical staff maintain intensive monitoring due to risks of wound infection and potential intracranial hematomas./.
