The 14th Party Central Committee reached absolute consensus in electing General Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee To Lam as General Secretary of the 14th Party Central Committee.

The first meeting of the newly elected Party Central Committee will continue with the personnel work, including electing members of the Politburo and the Secretariat, the Party General Secretary, and members of the Party Central Committee's Inspection Commission.

The Congress discussed and approved the number of the members of 14th Party Central Committee, consisting of 180 official and 20 alternate members.

The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) solemnly opened at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi on January 20 morning.

Preparations for the 14th National Party Congress have been largely completed, with logistical arrangements carefully put in place.

With straightforwardness and a high sense of responsibility, participants gave comprehensive and objective feedback on the candidates’ political mettle, sense of discipline and responsibility, and leadership capabilities.

In his address, General Secretary To Lam described the milestone as an opportunity to honour a pivotal historical event and reflect on the evolution of Vietnam’s revolutionary democracy.

The Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City launched the 18th annual Spring Volunteer Campaign 2026 on January 3, targeting hospitals, elder-care facilities, schools for special needs, social welfare centres, student dormitories, worker housing, train stations, bus depots, and other hubs throughout the bustling southern hub.

The programme’s overarching goal is to ensure that all people receive primary healthcare management and early, preventive care delivered close to home, thereby reducing disease burden; to increase the total fertility rate and strive for a balanced sex ratio at birth; to adapt to population ageing while improving population quality; to improve care for vulnerable groups; and to contribute to improvements in physical and mental health, stature, life expectancy and overall quality of life, towards building a healthier Vietnam.

The meeting focuses on reviewing and giving opinions on key preparations to ensure the successful organisation of the 14th National Party Congress.

On December 2, information from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City said that this medical facility had just coordinated with leading hospitals in organ transplants to successfully perform a heart transplant from a brain-dead donor for a 9-year-old patient.

At least 18% of the total number are from ethnic minority groups, with priority given to ethnic groups that have not yet had representatives in the NA, and at least 35% are women.
