Vietnamese in India, RoK, Japan, Hong Kong celebrate Lunar New Year

“Xuan Que Huong” (Homeland Spring), the biggest cultural event for overseas Vietnamese (OVs) when the Lunar New Year (Tet) come, has been held by the Vietnamese Embassies in India, the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Japan and the Consulate General in Hong Kong (China) to bring the Tet atmosphere to Vietnamese expats.

Talking to the Vietnamese community at the programme on January 19 in New Delhi, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai asserted the State and Party's consistent policy of considering overseas Vietnamese expats as an inseparable part and an important resource of the nation.

Hai reviewed the outstanding achievements of Vietnam in 2024, and noted that the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has also developed strongly, substantively, and effectively.

The convenience for people-to-people exchanges, along with the strong growth in each country, has contributed to promoting trade and investment cooperation between the two nations in recent times, he stressed.

The diplomat wished the Vietnamese community in India a prosperous, happy and successful New Year, affirming that the embassy will continue to accompany and support the community, helping them grow and stay connected to their homeland.

Addressing the “Xuan Que Huong” programme in the RoK on the same day, Chairman of the RoK – Vietnam Friendship Association Ahn Gyu Bach asserted his strong belief in Vietnam's bright future, while highlighting the consistent policy and high unity among political parties in the RoK regarding the importance of Vietnam for the RoK’s development.

Ahn congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic development achievements, affirming that in any circumstance, the RoK considers Vietnam, in particular, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in general, as a crucial pillar of the RoK’s relations with the region and the world.

He pledged to well fulfill his responsibilities, contributing to tightening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Ambassador Vu Ho said the programme not only reflected the spirit of solidarity but also served as a clear demonstration of the open-mindedness in the foreign policy of the Vietnamese Party and State.

He hoped that Vietnam, in general, and the Vietnamese community in the RoK, in particular, will continue to receive sincere cooperation and full support from the Asian country in building the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, stressing that the two nations will support each other in realising their dreams.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese Consul General in Hong Kong and Macau (China) Le Duc Hanh praised the Vietnamese community in Hong Kong and Macau for their contributions to the homeland in 2024, especially their support for those affected by Typhoon Yagi, and their efforts to promote cultural, art and sports exchange, and exhibition activities in these territories.

He emphasised the task of deepening Vietnam-China relations and creating a stable and favourable environment for development through political diplomacy, cultural exchanges, Party-to-Party relations, and people-to-people interactions.

Speaking at the “Xuan Que Huong” programme in Tokyo on January 18, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Ta Quang Hieu underlined the proactive and practical contributions made by the Vietnamese community in the country to promoting Vietnam – Japan relations.

On the occasion, representatives of the Vietnamese community living and working in Hong Kong and Macau, and Japan were presented with certificates of merit in recognition of their significant contributions to the community work, and to the homeland./.
