Prohibited substances in Ngan 98 collagen pills: Causes cancer, harmful to the heart

The Ho Chi Minh City Police Department has just prosecuted and temporarily detained Vo Thi Ngoc Ngan (Ngan 98), the operator of ZuBu Trading and Service Company Limited and the business household ZuBu Shop, to investigate the act of producing and trading in counterfeit food products.

Notably, the appraisal results of the Institute of Criminal Science, Ministry of Public Security, determined that some samples (collagen pills) produced by Ngan 98 contained two banned active ingredients: sibutramine and phenolphthalein.

These are substances once used in diet pills and laxatives, now phased out because of their potential to cause heart problems, high blood pressure and cancer.

Highly toxic to the cardiovascular system and can cause sudden death.

The two active ingredients in collagen pills is very worrying because they directly affect the heart and vascular system, organs that are very sensitive to changes in nerves and blood pressure.

According to Dr. Manh, sibutramine was once used in weight loss drugs because of its ability to inhibit the reabsorption of serotonin and norepinephrine, making users feel full quickly and reducing appetite.

However, this mechanism causes the heart to beat faster, blood pressure to rise, and blood vessels to constrict. This is the reason why drugs containing sibutramine were banned from circulation more than 10 years ago.

When blood vessels are narrowed, the heart has to work harder, leading to increased pressure and risk of damage in people with underlying diseases such as high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, and diabetes.

The danger is that users do not notice early symptoms and still think their body is healthy, losing weight or having "better skin", while the toxicity is accumulating every day.

Phenolphthalein may cause cancer.

In addition to sibutramine, the test results also detected phenolphthalein, a substance used in laboratories as an indicator.

This substance was previously used in laxatives but was banned because it is cytotoxic and potentially carcinogenic.

In addition, phenolphthalein also increases the burden on the liver and kidneys, two organs responsible for metabolizing and eliminating toxins. Long-term use can weaken liver and kidney function without the user knowing.

Since 2021, Ngan 98 has cooperated with a number of factories in Hanoi to order the production of "healthprotection and weight loss" functional foods , such as: Super Detox X3, X7, X1000.

On paper, the above products are licensed for circulation. However, Ngan 98 has taken advantage of the “freebies” to sell another product called “Collagen vegetable pills”.

Through investigation, this "Collagen vegetable pill" was not licensed for circulation, there was no product declaration file, but Ngan 98 still packaged and labeled it with the same brand name X3, X7, X1000, and advertised it as having the effect of increasing weight loss when used with the main products.

In addition, on the packaging, Ngan 98 noted "free gift, not for sale" to deal with the management agency, but in reality, it sold the entire set to customers as a complete course, encouraging parallel use to "achieve faster weight loss results".
