(SKTE) - Vietnam’s Paralympic team secured their first medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics thanks to powerlifter Le Van Cong, who won the Bronze medal by successfully lifting 171kg on his first attempt.

On the afternoon of September 4, athlete Le Van Cong, after lifting 171kg in his initial attempt, claimed the Bronze medal in the 49kg weight category for Powerlifting at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. This achievement brought pride to the Vietnamese Paralympic team and fans across the country.
Jordan's Omar Sami Hamadeh Qarada took home the Gold medal with a lift of 181kg, while Turkey's Abdulla Kayapinar won the Silver medal with a lift of 180kg.
Before the 2024 Paralympics, Le Van Cong held the world record in the 49kg category, lifting 183.5kg, a record he set at the World Championships in Mexico in 2017.
Born in 1984, Le Van Cong also holds the Paralympic record, having lifted 183kg to win the Gold medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics in Brazil.
Despite various personal challenges, including injuries and accidents during his daily life, the Quang Tri native has continued to persevere, working various jobs while training. His determination serves as an inspiring example of overcoming adversity to achieve greatness in sports./.
