Vietnam Relief Association for Handicapped Children supports 50 million VND to help people affected by storms No.3

In recent days, storm No. 3 (Yagi) has devastated and caused heavy damage to many provinces and cities in the northern region of Vietnam. Responding to the call of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, with the spirit of providing "highest and fastest" support to families affected by the storm and floods; on the afternoon of September 10, the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee held a launching ceremony to support people affected by storm No. 3 with the participation of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam.
Right before the launching ceremony, the participants observed a minute of silence in memory of the dead, including two military and police officers who sacrificed their lives while on duty.
The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Luong Cuong, Politburo member, permanent member of the Party Central Committee (PCC)'s Secretariat; Mr. Do Van Chien, Politburo member, Secretary of the PCC and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee; other Politburo members, members of the Party Central Committee Secretariat, PCC members, representatives of leaders of central departments, ministries, sectors and agencies; members of the VFF Central Committee; leaders of member organizations of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; members of the Central Relief Committee under the VFF; representatives of the VFF of provinces and cities; leaders of corporations, groups, general companies, companies, enterprises, banks, organizations, individuals, religious dignitaries and philanthropists.
According to incomplete statistics, by 2:30 pm on September 10 storm No. 3 had killed or left missing 157 people (87 dead, 70 missing), 764 injured; tens of thousands of houses collapsed or were severely damaged; hundreds of thousands of hectares of rice and crops were damaged. The leaders of the Party and State, the VFF and the Party Committees, authorities and the VFF of provinces promptly sent letters of condolences and shared with the families of the officers, soldiers who sacrificed their lives and people whose relatives died due to storm No. 3.

Mr. Do Van Chien respectfully thanked Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, leaders of the Party, State, and VFF for their special attention, spending time attending and directly supporting the people affected by storm No. 3; agencies, units, organizations, individuals and international friends for their special affection in attending the meaningful event.
He also called on agencies, enterprises, organizations, collectives, individuals in Vietnam and overseas Vietnamese, and foreigners working and living in Vietnam to share and help in spirit and material, together with the Party, the State and the whole society to quickly restore the production and lives of people.

VFF President Chien said that with very strong intensity, storm No. 3 has hit the northern provinces of Vietnam. Although the Party and State leaders, all levels and sectors have given strong directions, agencies, units, forces, especially the army and police, together with the people, have synchronously deployed many measures to prepare for the storm, however, with super strong winds, the storm caused great devastation. The damage is estimated at tens of thousands of billions of VND.
“In the midst of difficulties and calamities, Party committees at all levels, authorities, the VFF, socio-political organizations have mobilized thousands of military and police officers, soldiers, youth union members, youth and people to promptly help, evacuate, rescue and protect the lives and property of the people; in which two military and police officers bravely sacrificed their lives while on duty, the armed forces together with grassroots officials have bravely rushed into the storm to save people, leaving many good impressions in the hearts of the people,” he said.

While the state budget is still limited, promoting the tradition of solidarity and mutual love, on behalf of the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Mr. Do Van Chien called on people and soldiers nationwide, overseas Vietnamese, member organizations of the VFF, social organizations, enterprises, philanthropists at home and abroad, and foreigners living and working in Vietnam to share, help spiritually and materially, together with the Party and State to quickly restore production and the lives of people.
“Official, civil servant, public employees, soldiers of the armed forces, those who receive salaries from the state budget, each person should contribute one day's salary or more; employees should donate one day's income; youth union members, youth, and households with an average or higher standard of living should donate 50,000 to 100,000 VND. All contributions should be sent to the account of the Central Relief Committee," Mr. Chien said.
Mr. Do Van Chien said that no matter how fierce the storm is, it will pass, only comradeship and compatriotism will remain along with the fine cultural traditions of the Vietnamese people.
He affirmed that the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee will acknowledge and express gratitude for all the kindness and noble acts to help people overcome this disaster. The Standing Committee of the VFF Central Committee and the Central Relief Committee pledge that all sources of donations will be managed and used for the right purposes, effectively, publicly and transparently.

This is a noble gesture, the sharing and care of the people nationwide for the people affected by storm No. 3. The Presidium of the VFF Central Committee committed that, immediately after the launching ceremony, it will hold a meeting of the Central Relief Committee, in coordination with relevant ministries and branches of the Government to promptly allocate and support to localities.

At the same time, the Vietnam Relief Association for Handicapped Children calls on officials and members of the association's branches to respond to the call of the Presidium of the VFF Central Committee, each person supports one day's income to send to the Association's Office. The association will coordinate with the VFF at all levels to directly support families of disabled children affected by the storm and floods./.
