Giant kites brighten the sky of Can Tho

Kite flying has become a popular activity in Can Tho, especially after the Lunar New Year, with thousands of people gathering to fly kites and admire over 100 massive aerodynamic kites in various shapes and vibrant colors.

An annual kite flying festival opened in Can Tho city on March 1 and will last through to March 16

Kites in various sizes go on sale close to these venues.
The festival takes place at Tay Do square on Mai Chi Tho road in Can Tho city.
Children enjoy watching kites flying high over Can Tho city and posing for nice photos.
Members of the Can Tho Kite team club prepare to fly 100 kites during the course of the festival.
Many prefer large-sized kites which feature lovely animals.
Each giant kite costs between VND1 million and VND2 million, depending on their size.
Kites in the shape of cartoons prove to be among the most popular items.
Children enjoy listening to their parents' instructions on how to fly their kites.
Flying kites is a tradition among the local people of Can Tho to pray for good luck in the new lunar year.
