Twenty-one organ transplants successfully performed in one week

This is the first time Viet Duc Friendship Hospital has achieved 21 organ transplants in a week, marking a new milestone in the Vietnamese medical sector.

On January 13, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital said its doctors have made outstanding achievement in in mobilizing organ donation from brain-dead donors and organ transplants in just six days, from January 6-11, 2025.

With high consensus from four families of brain-dead patients donating organs, the hospital’s doctors and nurses have successfully performed organ transplants for 15 patients who were waiting for a chance to live. They are four patients with heart transplant, one patient with simultaneous liver-kidney transplant, three patients with liver transplant and seven patients with kidney transplant patients.

During the same period, the hospital planned to perform kidney transplants for six patients (from living donors), bringing the total number of transplants in one week to 21 cases.

Aiming to successfully perform 21 organ transplants in six days, the medical team of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital worked continuously through days and nights. The surgeries were coordinated smoothly at each stage with the highest precision rate.

Currently, the condition of the 21 patients after the transplant is stable, receiving active care and treatment./.

According to information recorded at the National Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, the medical team successfully performed a cesarean section on a 60-year-old pregnant woman, safely delivering a baby boy.
