Doctors and nurses of Sun Group International Hospital (Hanoi) joyfully welcomed the hospital’s very first newborn delivered painlessly at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department on May 13 morning.

The eagerly awaited “first ray of sunshine” is a healthy baby girl named Sunny. Weighing 3.3 kilograms at birth, she was given the meaningful Vietnamese name Anh Duong (Sunshine) by her family – closely tied to the hospital’s name. Sunny brings immense joy to her family and marks an unforgettable and inspiring milestone for the hospital and its dedicated obstetric team.

The mother, P.A., had a medical history of gestational diabetes and leg swelling starting from the 19th week of pregnancy. Gestational diabetes is one of the most common endocrine disorders in pregnant women. If not properly monitored and managed, it can lead to a series of serious complications for both mother and baby, such as an increased risk of preeclampsia, infections, polyhydramnios, preterm birth, postpartum hemorrhage, or the development of type 2 diabetes after childbirth. For the newborn, poor control can result in birth trauma, neonatal hypoglycemia, respiratory distress, or even stillbirth.

In P.A.’s specific case, in addition to gestational diabetes, she also experienced early-onset leg swelling from the 19th week of pregnancy – a symptom associated with multiple risks that requires close monitoring to rule out vascular complications or kidney dysfunction.

From the early stages of pregnancy, a specialised care plan was put in place for the expectant mother, involving a multidisciplinary approach including obstetrics, endocrinology, and nutrition. She underwent regular check-ups and tests to monitor blood glucose, HbA1c, fetal Doppler ultrasound, and fetal monitoring. She also received continuous counselling on diet, physical activity, and appropriate medication use.

At each milestone of the pregnancy, both maternal and fetal health indicators were closely tracked and assessed, ensuring blood glucose levels remained within safe limits. This allowed the fetus to develop steadily and helped determine the most suitable timing for delivery.

Assoc. Prof., Dr. Le Thi Thanh Van, head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, shared that the patient’s pregnancy and delivery were thoroughly prepared - from screening, antenatal monitoring, anesthesia and resuscitation, to postpartum care.

The cesarean section was successfully performed under the direct supervision of Prof. Dr. Tran Danh Cuong, former Director of the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the Medical Advisory Board of Sun Group, demonstrating strong collaboration with top experts in obstetrics and gynecology.

Welcoming the first healthy baby with a smooth delivery at the department is not only a great joy, but also a powerful affirmation of Sun Group International Hospital’s commitment to providing high-standard and specialised maternity care led by leading experts, said Van.

She affirmed that pregnancy is monitored closely with a detailed antenatal management plan and a flexible labour strategy to ensure maximum safety for both mother and baby. Although the hospital offers comprehensive maternity care packages, each care plan is customised to match the unique health profile of every pregnant woman.

Of particular note is the “painless delivery” method, combined with enhanced postpartum care, utilising an advanced pain management system and a dedicated 24/7 anesthesiology-resuscitation team.

Nearly a year since its establishment, Sun Group International Hospital – a modern, international-standard general hospital equipped with cutting-edge devices and facilities and staffed by a team of experienced, highly qualified medical professionals – has officially launched its Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. Featuring standardised delivery and operating rooms, along with inpatient rooms offering 5-star hotel-like comfort, the department is now fully ready to care for women’s health, especially during the most critical stages of pregnancy and childbirth.

As the very first baby born at this hospital, Anh Duong and her family received a meaningful gift from Sun Group: free admission to the Sun World amusement park system across Vietnam on her birthday each year, until the age of 18.

Sun Group also pledged to extend this special gift to future “little citizens” of the department – the 10th, 100th, 1000th newborns, and beyond. This is not only a warm welcome to each new life, but also a symbol of a positive journey ahead filled with joy, connection, and memorable experiences alongside Sun Group.

As one of the strategic pillars in Sun Group’s healthcare vision, the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department plays a key role in completing a deeply human-centred and specialised health ecosystem focused on enhancing patients’ quality of life. The maternity care packages currently offered at the hospital are now available with special discounts of up to 50%, bringing international-standard childbirth experiences within reach for Vietnamese women./.

According to information recorded at the National Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, the medical team successfully performed a cesarean section on a 60-year-old pregnant woman, safely delivering a baby boy. This is considered one of the rare pregnancies with high medical risks in Vietnam due to the mother's age. Thanks to close monitoring and thorough preparation before delivery, the surgery went smoothly, and the baby boy was born with good vital signs.
