Commencing in February, the drive aims to reach 95% of the eligible infants across 30 districts and township in accordance with the Ministry of Health's vaccine distribution.

The municipal People’s Committee has mandated that vaccination sites be established at existing healthcare facilities like medical stations and centres. Each location must be equipped with a mobile emergency response team to handle any post-vaccination reactions.

The Hanoi Department of Health has taken the lead in coordinating this massive undertaking, overseeing everything from vaccine storage and supply chain management to post-vaccination monitoring and detailed reports on the work. It is collaborating with the Department of Information and Communications and relevant units to raise public awareness of the campaign and encourage participation.

The campaign comes in response to an increase in measles cases among infants under 9 months, who fell outside the age range for vaccination under the national expanded immunisation programme. This age group represents a significant portion of the capital city’s population, only trailing those aged 1-5 years.

As a densely populated metropolis with high population mobility, coupled with hosting major hospitals treating measles cases from across the country, Hanoi is facing the risk of an outbreak./.
