Hanoi: 30 active dengue fever outbreaks remaining

According to the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC), during the past week (from August 23 to August 30), the city recorded 265 cases of dengue fever, 34 cases of hand-foot-and-mouth disease, and 2 cases of whooping cough.

During this period, 16 new dengue fever outbreaks were reported in districts including Dan Phuong, Bac Tu Liem, Nam Tu Liem, Phuc Tho, Dong Anh, Gia Lam, Ha Dong, Hai Ba Trung and Hoang Mai. Since the beginning of the year, Hanoi has recorded 120 outbreaks, with 30 still active.

Dengue fever cases have been identified across 29 districts, with several areas, including Dan Phuong, Ha Dong, Hoang Mai, Hai Ba Trung, Phuc Tho, Bac Tu Liem, Nam Tu Liem, and Cau Giay, reporting a higher number of patients.

Since the start of the year, more than 2,500 dengue cases have been recorded in Hanoi, with no fatalities.

Hanoi CDC has noted that the current hot and rainy weather conditions are ideal for the breeding of mosquitoes that spread the disease. Dengue cases are on the rise, with some outbreaks persisting and new patients continuing to be reported.

Monitoring of certain outbreak areas has shown that the insect index exceeds the risk threshold, suggesting that the number of cases may continue to increase in the coming period.

Over the past week, local authorities in Hanoi have conducted 18 environmental sanitation campaigns, inspecting more than 136,000 households and 731 public areas, including schools, and eliminating nearly 20,000 water containers with mosquito larvae.

As for hand-foot-and-mouth disease, most cases are sporadic, with no complex outbreaks recorded. However, the number of cases may increase as preschools and primary schools reopen.

Hanoi will continue to closely monitor and detect infectious disease cases in the community and medical facilities, allowing for timely investigation and response to cases and outbreaks.
