According to Dr. Hoang Dinh Canh, Director of the Central Institute of Malaria, Parasitology, and Entomology, from 2014 to 2024, the number of malaria cases and deaths has gradually declined year on year, with a decrease of 97.76% from 15,752 cases to 353 cases per year. Notably, between 2014 and 2016, the number of cases halved yearly, and in the 2019 – 2021 period, it dropped by more than three times the annual number.

Currently, Vietnam has eliminated malaria in 46 provinces and centrally-run cities. The indicators for malaria prevention and elimination have met the established targets. It is determined to eradicate the disease by 2030.

The institute has coordinated with local authorities to intervene in malaria hotspots, including Khanh Vinh district in Khanh Hoa province, Muong Te district in Lai Chau province, Huong Hoa district in Quang Tri province, and provinces of Ninh Thuan, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, and Dak Nong./.
